Jeff Smith

ARTIST BIO

Jeff grew up in Dayton, Ohio, graduated from Wright State University with a Geology degree, and then flew with the U.S. Air Force for 24 years. In his second career, Jeff now pursues landscape photography where you will see him chasing sunsets or capturing the beauty of local parks. His goal is to produce prints which sooths the viewer and promotes tranquility while highlighting pride in the local community.

ARTIST STATEMENT

For me, the most intriguing light in the evening where sunset and twilight are my favorite times of day. If I am lucky enough to catch favorable light, I prefer the contre-jour technique of pointing my lens into the light. This can produce unforgiving exposures, but I mitigate the challenge in-camera and in post processing. Some vistas beg for a panoramic composition which I will form from 50 to 100 initial images. In creating these prints, it is hard not to experience a sense of awe and wonder, thus I find my calling lies in sharing these decisive moments.
