Featured Artist : Holly Schapker
We are blessed to print for highly-talented local artists. One is Holly Schapker who has been painting for over 30 years with installations and commissioned pieces in universities, galleries, churches, and residences across the world. “Adsum,” based on St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits, has been exhibited at multiple universities including St. Louis University Museum of Art, Marquette, Creighton, John Carroll, Rockhurst, and now resides permanently at Xavier University. “There’s Something about Mary” has been exhibited at Xavier University and the University of Dayton has hosted two painting exhibitions by Schapker honoring Mary. In 2016, her piece, Regina Maria Sivori was presented to Pope Francis in Vatican City. Samples of her artistic reflections are available in Company, St. Anthony Messenger, and The Journal of Jesuit Business Education.
Holly writes, "I have a passion for spirituality and the creative process while my aim is to create timeless images of the spirit. Art has a special way of piercing the artist’s heart as well as it’s viewers. My paintings depict my quest for truth, goodness, and beauty. Before my easel, I practice lectio divina meditation or centering prayer and I intend to relinquish my personal control of the brush to God's energy which results in unexpected gifts that I humbly receive. I hope others enjoy my work as well."
